Konawaena was met with a first inning of shock and awe against Aiea in the first round of the HHSAA Division II tournament on Wednesday afternoon on Maui.

Konawaena was met with a first inning of shock and awe against Aiea in the first round of the HHSAA Division II tournament on Wednesday afternoon on Maui.

Na Alii, of the OIA, plated all 17 runs of their runs in the first inning and went on to rout the Wildcats 17-3 in five innings.

The first inning for Aiea featured 17 runs, 10 hits and three errors from the Wildcats.

The lone highlights for Konawaena came in the fourth inning. Erin Kaimuloa Bates batted in two RBIs on a single, and Kavy Villanueva added another. No player had multiple hits for the Wildcats.

Aiea’s Pomaikaikekioka Tuli pitched three innings, allowing one hit and tallying four strikeouts for the win. Mikelle Gonzales worked two innings, allowing three runs.

Tiani Lastimosa took the loss for the Wildcats. Andi Uemura also pitched four innings for Konawaena.

Konawaena will play Molokai in the consolation bracket today at 10 a.m.
